PTO Belt, which one is correct!

Recommended Posts

Kali25

I have a 416, Model 73423, serial number: 7900226

Could anyone help me figure out the correct belt for the PTO to the deck? (I bought one 83" long and its too short!

Thanks

Belts for the mowers are specific to the mower - not the tractor.

What deck do you have? or

Width of cut?

Side or rear discharge?

With your tractor model number and the model number of your mower deck you can find both belts on this chart.

Buy your belts at Tractor Supply.   If you keep the sleeve and belt clean, you can return them for a full refund and get the correct length.

I should clarify: the belt I need runs from the motor to the mower deck. So not the deck belt. Sorry for any confusion!

The belt from the engine to the mower varies depending on the mower deck is your deck 36...42...48 rear or side discharge???

I will measure the deck. I don't believe it has any decals anymore denoting size.

Measure the width of the cut, not the width of the shell.

Pictures would help.

48SD is 107"

42SD is 86"

44RD is 89"

PTO to 48" and 42" SD decks is 103"

PTO to 44RD decks 98"

Hope that helps.  Lowe's carries every belt except 86".

@Kali25    once hooked up how easily  does the  deck   move thru the mule  drive down angle belt?  can you move it by hand ?  thats your  spindle  bearings  feed back . often refer to that  area , its the collective  bearing  drag , that  makes pto  clutches  scream . and  devour belts  in all forms  , cracking / fraying  , burned starting areas . done a number of those . pete

So from what I measure, blade tip to blade tip, is 46" ...and it is a side discharge styke

Wheel Horse didn't make a 46" cut but there are a bunch of 48" Side Discharge mowers out there. Since your 416 is a 1996 model I looked up a  deck of the same year. Belt # 102742 is the Wheel Horse number and that is a 1/2" by 103" belt. Tractor supply should have this in stock in their Kevlar belts.

Trick with mower blades is to measure them from sharpened corner to sharpened corner across the center--that’s the farthest reach of the blade!

Is the height adjuster on the discharge side?  If so it's a 42", if not it's a 48"

I assume height adjuster refers to the rear wheels on the deck that roll on the lawn when mowing, and  that can adjust with several height positions. That positioned opposite to the discharge side. So must be a 48

VICTORY! The 1/2 103" belt was the winner! You can see the pride in my sons face! Yeah, he's really happy.

Glad you found the right belt for it!   Based on the picture you definitely have a 48" deck (I can tell by the belt cover).  Deck belt is a 107".  Both belts are available at Lowe's.  Same belts as the ones sold at TSC.

I have two 416H's.  They are my favorite machines.  I've built foot pedals for both of them as I hate the hand control in any form.  Search Hydro Pedal #1, 2, 3  if you want to see what I built

I'd recommend running a second wire from the voltage regulator to the battery positive on the starter.  This takes the load out of the 9 pin connector and helps to prevent it from burning up.  I used the white wire for the head temp sensor for this.  The head temp sensor is not used on the 416.

If the fuel pump fails a Kawasaki pump can be used.  I stay away from the cheap Chinese pumps.

Wow, that is really cool info. The seat on mine is in terrible shape. How can I get that replaced?
