Kohler cradle mount question.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there's a height difference between a K series that bolts directly to the frame and a cradle mount K series? I'm repowering a '68 Raider 9 with a K341AQS out of a JD using the pan and cradle mount from a C series WH. I'm also repowering my '75 B100 with a K301AQS out of a JD using the same style C series pan and cradle mount. Just wondering if I may run into hood clearance issues. TIA.

I am reasonably sure the center line of the crankshaft will be the same as your Tecumseh. Wheel horse made the cradle mount to compensate for the crankshaft height to be the same as the standard oil pan Kohler.  Those issues were all covered in this thread.

I'd agree with that based on the 1974 C160-8 Tecumseh / Kohler belt guard being interchangeable.

Here is a shaker mount K bolted direct to frame. Spacers are the same ones used in a 8hp shaker mount plus 3 washers...  No belt guard mods needed

Looked into this a bit further.       Acording to our friends on AI all Kohler 241,301, 321, and 341 have the same crankshaft center line but the HH100 Tecumeh is about 2 1/2" shorter. The Ponds were nororiouslt thrifty so the Tecumseh was on a mounting riser to make it work with the same belt guard as shown below.     :confusion-shrug:       But, since he has a K-301 on the B-100 now I'm rather sure the cradle will work out foe that one too.

For 10-16 HP Kohler K-Series engines (K241, K301, K321, K341), the centerline of the crankshaft to the mounting base (deck height) is typically

8.625 inches. This dimension is consistent across the 10-16 HP cast iron block series, facilitating interchangeability.

The factory crankshaft centerline distance from the base of the engine (mounting plate) for a Tecumseh HH100 is typically 6.125 inches.

:angry-tappingfoot:    well, the site won't let me add the drawing with the engine riser here so I will do another thread.

OK, It let me edit the post with the drawing.          :confusion-confused:
