Just a heads up. Ticks are out in my neck of the woods! Time to get out the Permethrin.

Keep the grass cut and avoid bushes the deer have been brushing themselves on. Use a broadcast spreader to apply Spectracide Triazicide insect killer to areas where you will be likely to go for a walk or work outdoors. It isn't as effective as Diazanon was but that has been outlawed for a few years now.

Good idea Richard but most of mine are picked up out in the woods making firewood. 

It's been suggested to duct tape pant legs to boots but that doesn't really work they just crawl over it but yeah spray your legs and boots down with deep woods off or the like. 

Best thing to do is check the missus all over in the shower at nite for them ... 

 

I got nailed three time by deer ticks ... yep the nasty lyme ones... and they left nasty scars. No pics Sylvia's visuals.

When deer get ticks on them they will brush up against bushes or trees to get rid of them and can get on you while you are just walking by the bush.

I Had a tick bite in 1967 that left a perfect 3" diameter bulls eye ring.   Unfortunately, this was  about 10 years before Lymes disease was discovered in Lyme Connecticut.

So I was never treated but weeks after the bite I had all the symptoms , stiff neck, joint pain, face numbness, heart disease, tunnel vision.

Did you ever have tests done?  More recent tests are better than what was done years ago.  My daughter hiked the Loyalsock trail for a week many years ago, she returned with serious issues that crippled her for life, tests didn't show much of anything.  To this day we have no clue what happened but it sure looked like Lyme disease.

I hose myself down with bug spray that's 40% DEET anytime I'm working out in the yard.  I buy it at Home Depot.

In the late seventies after Lyme disease was discovered, I was tested positive but when I took the next level test, it showed negative.   This was ten years after I was bitten and the medical community was very reluctant to diagnose or treat for Lyme disease.  Having experienced all the symptoms both physical and mental I certainly understand how the disease can be crippling or even fatal.  So sorry your daughter had to suffer this disease.   I think I was lucky to have a strong enough immune system to fight off the effects of the disease.

When my immune system was struggling to fight off the flu, colds, and my recent blood loss, the lyme symptoms always come back.   Over the years, I was tested 6 times with 3 positives. Due to fatigue, joint pain, and shortness of breath,  I had full blood test, chest x-rays, and lyme disease tests last week.  All showed negative, so I visit the cardio guru on Tuesday.  Guessing stents may be on the menu.
