Transaxle swap for a 1077

Hello, just asking for a project I wanted to try and accomplish. What options does one have to swap from a hydro to a manual transaxle on a 67 1077. Are there bolt on options or will frame mods need to be done,if anyone knows. What are some good and strong manual transaxles.

Because of the fact that the controls are contained in the sheet metal which is the steering tower and base, you really are better off finding a manual tractor. It's not just about swapping transmissions. You also need all the linkage, sheet metal, etc.

 

Possible? Definitely.

But there are easier ways to get a manual transmission.....

The 3,4,6,8 speed transmissions will bolt right up. You will need a different belt guard or modify some fingers to slack the belt.  The 8 pinion 8 speed with 1-18”axles is the strongest WH transmission

Thanks, I don't mind modding and fabing, I'm gonna make an off roader out of it, a cross between a tractor and an atv basically. I already knew a lot of control changes and cutting and welding will need to be done. I may even, in the long run, swap to independent suspension front and rear.

Do you have a part number or brand name for they 8 speed you mentioned handy?

A #5091 will do you nicely.  8 speed with 1 1/8" axles.  Common in a lot of the late 60's and 70's horses.

is the c105(or the transmission from one) any good? I found one somewhat close to me for what seems to be a decent price.

Any C series will have the heavy 8 speed. 

 

But swapping the transmission itself will be the easy part. It'll bolt right up. 

 

As @ebinmaine said, the additional parts on the 1077 will be the clincher. The tower and linkages alone will be a bear to find- short of just buying a donor machine.

Then I guess its a good thing the man I found with it said he would have to take it off the tractor first, so maybe I will buy the whole thing or hopefully at least he will have what I need to get a complete swap.

See if you can get the engine pulley too. Hydros have a larger engine pulley than gear jamers.

thanks for the tip, I will do that, I planned on doing some pulley swaps anyways for a bit more speed. Might end up with a custom pulley size anyways but at least I know now to try and get the pulley from him with the axle!
