March 31, 1889 Eiffel Tower officially opens for dignitaries and an award ceremony in Paris, France; designed by Gustave Eiffel and built for the Exposition Universelle, at 300 meters high, it holds the record for the tallest man-made structure for 41 years.

Fun facts - The Eiffel Tower is currently on its 20th paint job. It takes 25 people 18 months to remove 33tons of old paint and apply 60tons of new paint on the Tower. There is around 2.6 million square feet to paint by hand (rollers & brushes), no spray guns. This process is repeated every 7yrs.

Little known fact... it was actually built in Kenosha's twin city OSHA, France, just before it was annexed by Paris and incorporated into the French bureatocracy... :lol:
