856: where to bolt throttle cable for governor

Recommended Posts

FLtractor

Afternoon,

I started a whole thread on this last year but am now in a rush against the rain and can’t find the exact post that someone told me where to attach the throttle cable to the frame to then properly attach it to the governer wheel.. previous owner attached it by bypassing the governer to the carb..

which bolt would be best to attach on frame? So I can get proper tension to the left most governer wheel hole? Pictures would be most helpful.

I did this so I had a longer throttle lever throw.

To understand what you did.. did you rotate the metal governor wheel so the metal arm protruding from it is in the position of yours.. where you secured the throttle cable to?
Also if that’s exactly what you did, how does the metal protruding arm stay where it is In your photo.
Thank you for prompt reply

The arm where cable is attached is tighten behind the the governor bushing.  The arm also controls max RPM of the engine.

Oh I see now.. your cable is attached  on the same governor wheel lever.. difference I see is mine is in front of lever .. yours is behind.. so I need to move mine as yours is.. and move the cable further up the clip so it’s holding tension right near the metal exposed piece so it holds tension on the governor wheel. Did I get all that correct?

After looking at acto picture and reading this reply of yours, that makes sense.. someone once sent me the Kohler 181 digital manual so i can properly set the governor timing .. I need to find that link again so i don’t blow up the engine with too much rpm

One thing that I learned about throttle cables is, don’t cut the cable short. There should be a gentle arc to them. Not a straight cable, but a nice gentle curve. Hope this helps.
