Sears garden tractor

I was going a couple miles to pick up a long shute snowblower and a 42” SD rusty mower. Free mind you!! I got talking with the owner and i said “whats this tractor?” The owner said it was a Sears w/ cast iron briggs 8 or 10 hp, with plow (didn’t run due to electrical issues) and it was free too!! Well, i loaded a bunch of free parts and a sears tractor and was headed off!! I was taking pictures of the Sears tractor and came across this, a serial #. I was wondering what year it is? Im into WH, not much of a Sears guy, pretty cool ol tractor! Im just gonna sell it.

Fan shroud looks too rounded off to be a Briggs. Tecumseh was the common engine of choice for the early Sears tractors.

Looks to be around 1970 or so. My son has my old 71 Custom 10 and it looks a lot like yours.

Those older Sears machines were pretty stout units.  You see a few on plow days, chugging along.  They were well built, durable, and almost bullet proof.  Good machines.  I wouldn't discount one, nor a good old MTD machine either.

Yup, custom 10 tecky!! The snowblower on the trailer, the old owner was trying to talk down about it! ‘It’s only a single stage, it’s not made for much snow”. I showed him the video of the same exact thing throwing snow about 30’ in the air!!!

My dad had an old MTD about an 83(?) it had a monster motor. I think an 18-20hp b&s. It always started up. I mean i moved the Sears easily by hand, not like an old WH. I believe the Sears has got to be #500. By the look of it. It’s pure metal!! The transmission on the sears, its got hi and lo… overall, i was impressed!!

We had the push blade, garden plow, cultivator and disc harrow which were all Sears Branded. The garden equipment needed the factory 3 point hitch to attach them. Take a little time and search the garden implements for the Sears Suburban tractors and if you needed it it was likely available. I miss Sears and their brands of tools and stuff.

When I see all those layers of paint and pealing paint it makes me want to sand blast it all off to give it a proper coat of paint and make it shine again. Even better would be to have someone else sandblast it while I watch 😂

Yes!!! Someone could have taken the time to tape off all the decals!! Nope!!! Why would someone do that?!?! Just hurry up and girt done!! It make me mad!!

I believe the original colors would have been an off-white, and some dull shaded yellow, among others.
