K181 piston orientation

Recommended Posts

gt14rider

Hi all, I need some help. Changing the connect rod I took the piston off the rod before I marked its orientation. The piston has only a .020 . My question is should the. .020 be on the cam side or the starter generator side. New rod, used piston, new rings.the rod Oil hole on cam side. I ended up going through the engine. The cam broke, have a nother post about that. Anyway have some pics of my progress, and I know you guys like pictures.

Any help would be appreciated on the piston.

Look at the piston skirts. If you see more wear on one of them, it will be the "thrust side"

@squonk took a couple pictures.

I'm going to pick  pic 2  for the thrust side.

What do you think?  :USA:

Another way to tell. Quite often there is some "erosion " on the piston edge closest to the exhaust valve. Your 2nd pic has it.

Thanks,  it looks like it has some carbon still on top, were you circled. That also puts the .020 mark on the cam side.  Thanks again for the info, good to know. :USA:
