March 23, 1857, Vermont inventor Elisha Otis installs the first commercial elevator in an upscale department store in New York City. Steam-powered, it moved just 40 feet per minute and had a safety catch to prevent falling—if the rope broke.

Hmm, 40 feet per minute. That's the same speed as a Wheel Horse 8-speed in 1st gear, low range.

Another similarity - if you could keep the carb bowl full & get enough traction, the WH could do the same thing - no safety catch though... :lol:
