Hydro Linkage Travel Issue

Recommended Posts

Bill D

My 199X 416H can't reach top speed.  The cam plate hits the arm where it attaches to the transmission as shown in photo #1.  Does anyone know why this happens on some tractors and not others?  Is there a way to fix it without grinding something down?

Photo #2 shows my 1994 416H which has full linkage travel and can reach top speed.  I don't see an obvious difference between the two.

Thanks for the help as always.

Bill, I have no idea what the difference is, besides the way they might be adjusted, but could you grind a relief on the cam plate to gain enough clearance to reach top speed?

Cam plate wears a groove in the eccentric cam. Replace both. and adjust.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Something about the orientation of the eccentric in that first picture just doesn't look right.

I was thinking about that after I took the picture.  The tractor only has 166 on the clock, if it's accurate.  I do have a new cam and plate for it if needed.  I'll try adjusting the eccentric and linkage and see what happens.

Call me crazy (plenty of folks do), but the pictures make the lever body at the bolt look thicker on the one that makes contact. I'm assuming the washer on top is the same size between them...

If I was going to grind something, there is alot more material at the pivot arm than the cam plate. And it wouldn't take much to give full travel if the cam eccentric isn't the problem.

Different size washer.  Thinking you're right about cam eccentric being indexed wrong.

I wanted a pedal control for my recently acquired GT1800.  This is what I came up with.  It still needs some finishing and I may rework the foot pedal.  It's basically bolt on other than drilling a 7/8" hole in the belt cover.  I'm also considering building an automatic neutral return if I can find the right torsion spring.  I would appreciate any input and advice.

Can I change the hoses on my GT1800 without draining the transmission?  Thanks.

I have a GT1800 that I have swapped an M14 into.  The original drive belt is too long for the Kohler.  I tried a 7473 belt and that was too long.  I'm guessing I need an 81" belt.  Does anyone know for sure?  I'm thinking it should be the same length as a 314H?   I'm trying to avoid multiple trips to TSC with the price of gas.  Yes, I do have the correct hydro pulley on the Kohler.  Thanks.

I've got an Eaton 1100 in a GT 1800.  I noticed that it pushes quite easily after it had been sitting and not running for awhile.  The manual says the transmission should lock up when pushed, but this one doesn't.  I've had it running and it does move okay.  It will lock up if you try to push it right after you shut it off?  It hasn't been running in a month, and now it pushes easily.  Is this normal or do I have a problem?

Does anyone have a part number or source for the plastic washer that goes between the hub and transmission housing on the Eaton 1100's.  Can't seem to find a part number in the diagrams.  Thanks. Bill
