Ed Kennell 45,197 #2 Posted Friday at 11:57 PM I had the privilege of watching Roberto play a game at Forbes Field in 1956. I was there on a AAA School Safety Patrol day. We paraded the entire way around the perimeter of the field.

My best, all be it fuzzy, recollection was of being able to go to the fence right beside the dugout. The players were always happy to shake hands and sign autographs for the fans.

This 90 mile ride on a school bus was the farthest this 12yo Appalachian kid had ever been from home. I had seen the Pirates play on our 8" TV, but was in awe of the size of the stadium. Seemed like it took forever to walk the warning track in front of the ivy covered wall.

Home plate is encased on the floor of the Pitt library. About a 30 mile drive for us. Edited 7 hours ago by Horsin'round Incomplete thought
