Not remote, but I will have to cross the Appalachians twice which is gonna hurt given the price of premium gas right now $4.49 when I filled up this afternoon.

No big deal, on the down hill side your fuel mileage becomes incredibly good. Hope you aren't going Interstate 40 to Tennessee, major construction delays in that area due to landslides that took place during Hurricane Hellene.

Yeah, the 10 speed will shift a lot. I'll stay east of the remains of Helene on I-77 this time. I worked the storm and hated to see that. I fear it won't be the last.

What engine is in your truck?  We run premium as well with Mrs. P’s ride but it has the supercharger requiring high octane.

Hauling trailers with Norman, I notice better average fuel mileage going to the Big Show than I do to Wisconsin.  I’d like to say the turbo builds better boost hitting the hills, and coasts down them.  You may be on to something

It's the 6.2L with over 10:1 compression so there's just no getting around high octane. 10-speed and AFM helps some but the facts are the facts. I can't pull this trailer with a Vega wagon

While yer hooked up & on the road Ineed go get this junior ... guy is giving it away. Claims the carb bowl is broke.  Says it's a '58 but I say 56 or 57. 

Take yer gas card tho it's in far western Montana!

Yep! just south of you near Carlisle to wrangle one from @HyperPete That was day 1 of a 4-day trip. This was a good way to start it! '73 16 Automatic with an ARK 500. Got to meet Pete and his wife, along with two cool pups. He had a Cheese Steak hoagie waiting for me! Can't beat that. I also swindled him out of some other stuff too

The FEL came with stands and weight box and it's all in good shape. Good pump and hoses. No cracks or signs of abuse and it looks like it's never been stored outside. Pete also parted with a spare '73 frame with a good dash, hood stand, and straight hood to go with a 48" deck that turn smooth but needs a weld on a crack and maybe some other attention. Maybe some more on that from day 3.

It just so happened that my brother needed a hand with a retaining wall that fell this winter and he lives just a couple hundred miles west of @HyperPete so I jumped on the PA Turnpike and went that way. Two days of some heavy lifting for guys our age but the weather couldn't have been better so we gave the machines and our selves a workout.

Day 3 we cut a deal with his neighbor for a 48" deck that needs spindles, but the deck I got from Pete should be a good donor for those. I also managed to finally talk my brother out of a pair of front weights from back when he had horses. He happened to have a set of blades that I brought home to boot.

The tractor itself has a few issues but it's overall in great shape. Unmolested for the most part and a smoke-free k341. The fuel pump leaks pretty bad, looks to have been over tightened and the carb needs to be rebuilt. The bigger issue is a hub welded onto an axle but I have a rebuilt Sunstrand with pump and motor rebuilt and ready to bolt in. There is a small leak at the lift cylinder and I haven't cleaned it up to see if it's a hose or the cylinder which is welded. Everything works, original decals on straight metal, the dash isn't cracked, the steering is pretty tight, the seat has a small tear taped but overall really good condition. I'm very pleased having committed to it from 3 states away. My SIL named it 'Mater and added a pair of paper teef to the hood. It came with a replacement set of lights so I hope the name won't stick

Welcome to the FEL club. I think you did good on the price. 

Couple of guys here know a thing or two about hydraulics if you have issues. The number one thing about leaks is overtighting fittings.

Thanks Jim, it was a worthwhile trip to say the least. A 16 Auto with a lot of potential, ARK 500 (which will likely go on my c165), two 48" decks which will make one good one, rear wheel weights, front wheel weights, a pair of Carlisle turf tires never been mounted, and two Stihl chainsaws (the third one I need to service and return in July), plus a handful of other odds and ends for essentially $2k. I got my brother's generator running and tuned up after we rebuilt the retaining wall so there was a bit of work and I burned a bunch of gas but all in all a great trip. Some work in front of me now though but I'm good with it!
