ri702bill 11,388 #1 Posted 12 hours ago (edited) We take our gas dryer down off the pedestal it shares with the washer once a year to remove the back, front & drum to give it and the vent hose a through cleaning. It is a PITA to grab it from the rear, so I added a pair of Garage Door Handles. Truss head screws, Thick fender washers & nylock nuts. Much better... The "word on the street" is that newer Kenmore dryers were cost reduced where the thermal fuse is now inside the plenum and non-serviceable for singular replacement. You now need to drop a pair or Bemjamins for the whole plenum assembly - did i mention it is also not a take-apart design to allow cleaning anymore..... 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Beap52 2,061 #8 Posted 3 hours ago I'm in the process of replacing the drum rollers for the third time in daughter's dryer. It get's a lot of use with family of five. This time I'm replacing the "axles" the roller rotate on which requires digging quite a bit deeper into the machine. I'm thinking about using dry graphite on the "axles". Of course, replacing rollers means deep cleaning that otherwise wouldn't get done. It irks me that there seems to be planned obsolescence in machinery. I'm sure two dollars more for sealed bearings would make sure they'd last the life of the machine. Those handles are a great add-on. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Perhaps sealed ball beraings may not be the right choice here due to the proximity of heat involved... And as for the first part, something I learned from breaking parts on our circle track car.....
