gwest_ca-(File Mod) 12,049 #4 Posted March 12 We may have the B&S service manual but do not know the model and spec number of your engine. Post those and will link you to it if we have it. This may be it
Achto 31,216 #5 Posted March 12 To my limited knowledge, I believe the 16 & 18 hp blocks are the same.
horseman with no horse 60 #6 Posted March 12 they are not the same, the bore and stroke are different the front of the crank where it goes into the babbit is different and briggs made 3 different size o rings for the sump cover to block for the oil pressure. which now that im thinking about it is anther factor. im gonna get some model numbers to help narrow it down
horseman with no horse 60 #7 Posted March 17 350447 for the 18 hp, and 303447 for the 16 hp
kpinnc 17,438 #8 Posted March 17 On the horizontal shaft Vanguards, the PTO side cover (bearing plate) are the same 12.5 to 23hp. I have 14, 16, and 23hp models and the bearing plates interchange. I can't verify the vertical shaft engines because I only have one small block 16hp vertical. That being said, they probably will interchange. Vanguards use many common parts.

horseman with no horse 60 #11 Posted March 18 i looked at the part number and the o ring that happens to line up with the date code for my 16 hp will not fit on the date code of the newer 18hp cover. i ordered an o ring for the 16 hp based off the model and spec number. i will caliper it and compare it to the 18 to see which is the"bigger of the two style"
horseman with no horse 60 #12 Posted March 18 as for the breather it looks like it just gets pulled straight off based on the manual?
horseman with no horse 60 #13 Posted 9 hours ago upon looking at the parts breakdown the o rings for the side cover on my particular model 30 and 35 use different numbers and are in fact different upon visual inspection so they arent compatible.
