16hp vangaurd side cover on an 18hp?

im wondering if i can stick my 16 hp side cover on my 18 hp as my 18 has a missing dipstick tube, will the crank fit? and will the dipstick be accurate?

also how do i get the friggen pcv that sits in the valley off? its got one long bolt and idk if it pulls right off or slides, or what. i reefed on it and cracked the nipple on it the the pcv hose goes on

We may have the B&S service manual but do not know the model and spec number of your engine. Post those and will link you to it if we have it.

To my limited knowledge, I believe the 16 & 18 hp blocks are the same.

they are not the same, the bore and stroke are different the front of the crank where it goes into the babbit is different and briggs made 3 different size o rings for the sump cover to block for the oil pressure. which now that im thinking about it is anther factor. im gonna get some model numbers to help narrow it down
