@kpinnc I was going to ask earlier if you intended to use tubes on the rear but as usual, you answer without the need.

Yeah I really think my welds are free of any pinhole, but tubes make new tires so much easier to install. I didn't use them up front and it was much more work on such wide tires.

When I had these put on the tire shop had the ai hose cliped on and had to use two blaster tanks to get thr last one to pop out.

Well, one of my cuts got a little off by about 1/4 inch and didn't come out straight. The wheel horse wheel cut great but the other one didn't. 

 

So I bent a 1/2 inch wide, 1/8 thick steel bar to line everything up. I scribed a mark .150 along the edge as a guide since one half of the wheel was straight. I used the line as a guide and clamped every inch until I was all the way around the wheel. 

 

Then I tacked the other half, working my way around. I repeatedly measured the width as I went, and then filled the inside gap with multiple passes after. The grinder and a flap disc cleaned the inside up nicely. 

 

If I ever do another set of these, I absolutely will do it this way. Alignment was much easier and it's probably stronger this way as well.

Yep. Welded all the way around both edges. Definitely more work than I wanted but if I ever try this again, this is how I will do it. 

 

Nice smooth edges. Won't harm a tube.

First side of the first wheel painted. Not perfect by any means but I like it.

Second Wheel turned out much better. Painting wide wheels is a different animal than regular ones. Getting way inside the dish produces alot of overspray. But I found a better method on the second wheel by standing it up, placing a bag on the backside and painting about 1/3 of the way round and using a heat gun to firm it up before moving to the next third. Sounds strange but it works. 

 

First one might need some touch up, but I'm done for today.

Got the donor frame/ hydro cleaned up this evening. It was really nasty so I just loaded it and went to the car wash.

Just a little inspirational mock up to get an idea of where this is going. 

 

Front will narrow by over an inch, rear will widen by two inches. 

 

But the basic idea is there...

Thank you sir. Clearly a long way to go but I just wanted to get an idea of how it will go together. I've never had a black hood before so I'm excited to see how it will look. 

 

I also have to get the 701 finished so this one can go on my shop stand before I get too far on it. I'm getting too old to squat down to the floor too much.

yeah gotta make me one of them stands or some sort of lift my oi knees just want take it no more.
