Greetings from Central Mass. My name is Dana Kennison and am the proud owner of several horses.

What finally brought me here today is that I am in need of  help with a broken transmission.. Bad year

here in the north east to be without my trusty snow pusher. I will be posting a want ad today and when .

winters claw finally relaxes I will be offering some of my collection of parts and other stuff. All for now.

The Peerless 3 speed in my 1971 800 Special decided to stop transmitting about a month ago.

No forward or reverse movement only the clacking of the final drive. More adventures in tractoring.!!

The deep snow we've had over the last couple of weeks can test those transmissions.

Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement. I have a B-100 that pushed a snowblower for years but it will need some work.

I don't really push a lot of snow. Use it to finish up after the blower. It will work out somehow. Meanwhile I'm chasing a Gravely walk behind around the property pushing a dozer blade. Better than nothing but I miss my Special.

I wonder if you could 8spd swap it? Never had a 800 special, but I do know the 8spds are bulletproof

800 Special has a vertical shaft engine and a different style of frame not compatible with Unidrives.

Revision:

I was incorrect here. It is horizontal shaft only with a different frame setup at the transaxle.

I thought they were the horizontal 8hp gen start Briggs? I could be completely wrong.

:WRS:

The Peerless 1400 is a light duty transaxle and is not interchangeable with the six/eight speed units found on most :wh:. Remove the hubs and see if a key may gave broken ore something simple like that. The attached service Manual and IPL should be helpful.

Completely different.

Tecky ... the A-90 had a 8 HP SG Briggs

These models were consider somewhat of a budget model and intended pretty much for mowing duties being the Peerless not being as stout as unidrives. One uses anything with the Peerless for ground engagement it's days are numbered.

The rear setup with a Peerless so you can see how a using undrive would be a job.
