On my Hot Rod Kohler Command, I had to have the cylinders honed a little bit to provide additional piston to cylinder clearance for forged pistons. OEM pistons are cast. Forged pistons are made of low silicon 2618 material for high tensile strength and ductility. The OEM cast pistons are high silicon 4032 material and has lower thermal expansion, thus run less piston to cylinder clearance.
