WHX?? 54,896 #1 Posted Saturday at 10:59 PM Had The Pullstart pick me one at the BS couple years ago. Went to install it on a 8 HP and could not get it to quit rubbing. No wonder they are not all the same size. The ones with the three indents are larger than ones without. Especially on the SG end. Smaller ones are for a 7 HP????? wallfish 19,261 #2 Posted Saturday at 11:08 PM Hmmm. I've never really noticed that either but all the 7s I've had were pull starts. Maybe go with a 30" belt instead of a 31.5"

Spent a hour of my life trying to get it to fit. There's an hour I won't get back.

There's an hour you learned something too. Learning what not to do is just as important as learning what to do. It ain't gonna take you an hour the next time! 2

ri702bill 11,248 #7 Posted Sunday at 10:04 AM AND there are a couple more variants... The 701 double-pulley belt guard, and the 702 style - similar to the one without the ribs, but has a much smaller dimple at the small end, not a full circle...
Racinbob 12,754 #8 Posted Sunday at 10:34 AM This is the 7hp I replaced the 8hp on my 854. It was a yank start so I put all the goodies from the 8 on to the 7 from the flywheel out to convert to s/g. If it's the grass screen rubbing could it be that it is a different screen? Note how the shroud is fully outside of the screen.

Remember I have a 7 and 8 on the bench with the 2 pulleys and that may be the difference?

squonk 45,490 #11 Posted Sunday at 04:09 PM 2 small blocks on the bench. Closest one is an 8. Had the larger guard with the 3 lines. 3" pulley. Farther one is a 7. Came with no guard. 3 1/8" pulley.

It has the short s/g and no bump in the guard. I'll also uploaded photos if others don't beat me to it.
Retired Wrencher 6,443 #16 Posted Monday at 11:09 AM The 2nd one to the right is that for an 855 and 856? Also did a 64 8 hp models have that same belt guard?

I’ve always had a start gen belt that I bought from the dealership years ago and it never worked and it was too long so the information that you supplied is the reason why that belt never fit what I had.
Handy Don 15,902 #18 Posted Monday at 05:04 PM (edited) I have the “no indent” cover on the 854 with a short gen. No reason to believe these aren’t original. The IPL belt turned out to be too short which kept the generator tight up against the regulator and had the pulley rubbing the guard. Slightly longer belt solved both issues. I suspect there might be small and large versions of the “no indent”. I’ll measure mine later. Edited Monday at 05:07 PM by Handy Don
