Mystery nut...

Recommended Posts

Found this in driveway yesterday now that snow is starting to melt. Its definitely Wheel Horse red just not sure if its off the 654 or 702? Leaning towards 702 cause the 654 has incorrect color respray. Guess this weekend I'll be looking over both tractors however nothing appears to be loose, falling off, or not functioning on either tractor......

Any guesses???

It's actually a Castle Nut used with a cotter pin to secure.  What , that is the question.

I'm gonna take a guess - did some of the older blades use a castle nut for number 12

Yes, our plow from '62 has a bolt that goes through with a castle nut originally, I swapped it our with a pin of the same size so blade could be removed easier.

Do you have a 520?

Looks like the castle nuts on the steering tie rods.

Wish I had a 520 but I dont.

Just do snow removal w/654 plow & 702 snowblower.  All the other tractors are in back storage building for winter

I just went out to the shop and on my 48'' dozer blade # 0648BC03 it has a 3/4 -16 X 3 3/4 Hex bolt with a 3/4-16 Hex nut. This a later model blade set up. Directions say to leave the bolt loose enough to allow the sector and channel to operate freely. No Castle nut and cotter.    @ML3

As noted above, the ’61-’63 blades used a castle nut on the pivot bolt--on mine it was on the bottom but I’ve since swapped it to the top so I can see it!

Betting the cotter rusted away and the bolt came off your blade.

Spent hours out today looking at both tractors. Found absolutely nothing wrong or where that nut could have come from? Maybe its from one of my other tractors but I haven't run them since November? I guess anything is possible that its been out there all that time & I haven't noticed?
