Well, let me tell ya!

416H had no lights. Fuse block was full of grass. Cleaned it with air, looked at fuses, they looked ok. put some WD-40 on em and installed em. No lights. Got my handy, dandy colored wiring diagram, (thanks for the heads up about it). Tested fuses with 12V test light. The headlight fuse was bad. Replaced it, no lights. Looked over the wiring, no issues. Started tracing the wires, on/ off switch is bad. Ordered a new one. Went to change out the front tires on the 312-8. Got a small tire changer from Harbor Freight. Broke the tire loose but wouldn't spin it of the wheel. After 45 minutes of fighting with 3 screwdrivers & very little progress, it was time for the grinder w/ cut off wheel. It came off then. Wheels are rusted pretty bad. Gonna try to wire brush & repaint them, (maybe spray with flex seal?), but also looking for new wheels. Back in the day, you could buy rubber flaps that installed on the wheel to protect the tubes. Haven't found anything like that but still looking. Did I mention new wheels are $200 & up. OUCH!

I had rust holes on the inside of my front rims when I removed the tubes/tires when changing to V61's..  JB weld did a great job filling the holes and I spread to other areas that looked suspicious from putting rust. Make sure you clean  all the rust and let JB weld fully cure before remounting tires..might be good to paint it too if you have time.

@CD Long Jr  your  involvement  really impresses me ! thoroughness to detail  is evident and you are still  learning this unit !  ever get a penetrating oil  soak down going on that paint ? just let it sit and soak / feed  that  , DO NOT  REMOVE ANY OF IT  , WITH  a  scruffy pad  , let the lubrication feed the foundation of it , for days weeks , then a  mineral oil  clean cloth rub down, you will trap  era patina , in both red / black  areas , have used a 6 " electric  buffer pad  , at that stage , my paints just  popped right thru , maybe  LIGHT CLEANER WAX , that paint is all  oil based recovery , only thing I put on them is , clean cloth mineral oil , your doing  very good , clean paint helps inspire  ideas , pete

CD,

on scamazon you can get 2 brand new 16x6.50x8 tires.   2 new 8 inch rims.   and here is the best part.  the tires are already mounted on the rims.  under $100 for everything.

@CD Long Jr    another tweak for ya , often relate to  spindle  deck issues , due to lubrication failure , in addition to doing that  on my 3 decks , also added this flat idler  pulley , also grease enhanced , at the worst  bounce point  ? watched  it in action , then just  went to the related WORST UNSUPPORTED SPOT  , drilled a hole in deck  , added a spacer  under  pulley, so it was even with  flat belt contact  , ENHANCING   its belt play  restriction , none of my deck belts , bounce , smooth  solid  , quiet function , every related bearing spindle has LUCAS  hd / green grease  , mule drive / pto set up , effortless  engagement  / operation , another experiment  pete

@CD Long Jr  very  typical ,  REPEDITIVE  ISSUE  FOR ME , LOVE THOSE , THEY SHOW YOU THE WAY  , TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT ,  zeroed in on the  widest belt bounce area  ?  already had the flat  back of belt pulley , to gently push back on long UNSUPPORTED  problem ?  staring right at you , drilled hole in deck  used a 3/8  short thread  bolt , most of it was smooth  for pulley slide function , washers , elastic lock nut , lets you  dial it in , when added to  my  lucas cleaned out  regreased spindle bearings , as well as entire PTO / MULE DRIVE SET UP  , how easily  do you think it  spins up ?  did that  on my 3 decks , easily spin .  often refer  to  how easily  my  mule  drive belt  moves the deck  BY HAND , thats ROTATIONAL  MOVEMENT EASE ,  no screaming belt  or violent engagement . never had any related bearing  fail  or whine , isn't that what you want ?   pete

So today, I got out my homemade vise and wire brushed the wheels, wiped em down with mineral spirits, let em dry and applied 4 coats of filling gray primer. " on scamazon you can get 2 brand new 16x6.50x8 tires.   2 new 8 inch rims.   and here is the best part.  the tires are already mounted on the rims.  under $100 for everything". Money is at a premium now & I like DYI.  Next, I installed the head.  Never-seize was applied to the head bolts. Torqued 10 ft lbs, then 20 ft lbs then 30 ft lbs and finally 40 ft lbs. I have rechecked the torque 3 times as suggested. No change. Now I'm gettin' quality time (?) on the keyboard searchin' for the sizes of  hardware I need. Got a great hardware store nearby. If they don't have it, you don't need it. ;)

@CD Long Jr  going the right way , like to take advantage of a  related zone , if nothing else , get some marker tags  or  stick on writeable tape , to  relate  issue  / idea  , as you  transition to that  mind set ,    rite it down , brain farts  as also part  this . look at what you have already done , you are kickin it  , pete
