Beap52 1,956 #1 Posted 13 hours ago Mom called this morning and said that a fellow with a couple of dugout canoes was going to visit her assisted living facility. Beautiful sunny day in the low 70's. We're watching the three grandbabies today so I took to older ones to see the canoes. He had two on a flat bed trailer a 24 footer named Flying Eagle. A replica of Lewis and Clark's dugout. The other, a 28 footer, named New Medizen. He has floated these on the Snake river and Mississippi rivers. He says he can float and navigate them by himself. They take about 31 days and nights to make one with the help of several volunteers. I believe the logs came from Mt. St. Helens and weight something like 650 pounds. Willow, the owner of the canoes, insisted my two yeahoos get inside and he gave them a paddle he broke while on the Mississippi and offered to bring the canoes to our kid's school. Our grandson's ears perked up when Lewis and Clark was mentioned during the presentation. Willow asked our grandson what he knew about the Lewis and Clark and was somewhat surprised our grandson's knowledge on the subject--didn't hurt that they happen to be studying the Louisiana Purchase in school. I took pictures but I've been told to be careful about posting grandkids pictures on the internet. If you're interested, google "Flying Eagle Canoe Willow Bill" and/or "New Medizen Willow Bill" They looked to me like they'd be a handful to control.

My daughter is adamant about that. She will have no pictures of my granddaughter allowed to be posted anywhere. I have so many great pictures on my phone with my granddaughter on Wheel Horses, but I can’t/won’t post them.
8ntruck 8,573 #3 Posted 11 hours ago I was working with the local Explorer Scout group in 04. The Lewis & Clark excursion reenactment stopped at Cupboard Creek on Franklin Island in late spring. As part of that event, a camporee for scouts was held. One of the events in that camporee was a dugout canoe building contest. Logs were supplied various scout troups earlier in the year. Relatively small number of entries - somewhere between 30 and 40. Our Explorer Troup ended winning with our effort. The canoe itself wasn't that great - in my opinion anyhow - but the documentation of the build I think is what gave us the win. Well, the documentation and the fact that we used largely traditional hand tools - axes and adzs - to make the canoe. I think we only used a chain saw for 2 cuts.

Now I could see if someone had done something of less and facial rec would pic them up. I always joke when them folks put a profile pic on and use their dog. Could be just plain not that attractive IDK LOL
