Due to how long it’s been sitting I’m considering replacing the bearings and the seal is junk anyway. Also the grease is old so I pulled the PTO to clean everything out anyway because it spins even when not engaged. The shaft is kinda sticky from the old grease which I believe is causing this. I will be installing a PTO brake and the bracket required to mount the brake since I’m assuming 1973 didn’t have them at all as mine doesn’t have one. All in all, should I just pull everything, clean and re-grease, replace the seal and re-install or just replace the bearings and seal and obviously clean things up. Try grease them first. Use a brush put plenty of grease all over the bearings. Turn by hand and reapply more grease. I did a few times and it worked for me.
Racinbob 12,614 #27 Posted 5 hours ago It's a bit late now but I just plug the PTO housing from the outer side and fill it with degreaser. I'll leave it sit a day or 3 rotating the bearings now and then. A good flushing, repacking, seals and you're good to go. 4
Chris689 80 #28 Posted 5 hours ago So I pulled the PTO off my 77 C120 last night to see if it would work on the 73. The 73 has a 6” PTO and the 77 has a 6 3/4”, didn’t know if it would work. When I pulled the PTO from the 77 I found a bolt with a spring on the end of the crank to help with disengagement and drive the PTO into the brake. Is this a factory setup or would this be a mod someone did? I can’t find it referenced in any parts manual. Just curious.

Shortly after that they added another retaining ring and eliminated the spring and a couple other parts. I don't know exactly when. I think they eliminated all 5 of those parts on the end of the crankshaft (103, 104x2, 106 & 107)
