Homemade tiller

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of making a rotary tiller for my wheel horse but for as cheap as possible and I wondered if anyone here has any suggestions on how to do the gearbox without spending loads of money

I bought a scrap (engine blown) walk behind tiller and mounted the tiller on a plow frame.

I often thought about using one like Ed used in the thread above but was going to just leave the motor on it and use the rear sleave hitch. might have to use one of them lift springs but believe it would work. Dang it I got that 1257 with the HY2 unit on it, man that would really be doable now....

repurposing a used tiller seems to be the less expensive solution.

A 6 sided belt and some pulleys like a mule drive can eliminate a 90 deg gearbox but more difficult to lower the gear ratio.

I don't know if Wheel Horse exported the WT-30 tiller but you might want to search for one.  https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1885-tiller-30in-1960-wt-30-om-ipl-snpdf/

That is kinda what I had in mind. I never knew WH made such a thing. I assume there is older front tine tillers across the pond like there is around here????

I was thinking of just doing a belt from the pto to a pulley with a chain that goes to the center of the shaft on the tiller but it might not work I think I will just have to have a play around

A 6 sided belt

The elusive and expensive one... as I recall, only used in one application, and only one size.
