14hp Kohler magnum oil

I bought this tractor new. Wondering if I have 

always kept too much oil in it. Chat gpt tells me the 314 takes 1.5 quarts. 2 quarts it still says add on the stick? Chat GPT says don’t add anymore? I’ve always kind of suspected 2 quarts was about right but it’s more like 2.5 to show full. My plug has always been oily, figured that was nature of the beast.

Chat GPT also say it’s better to run a little low vs over full.. What do you guys think about this AI giving me the business!

Magnums could have a variety of oil pans each would require a different amount of oil.  I doubt AI knows which pan you have.  Use the dipstick.

I did question the oil pan for a Wheel Horse 314. It said yes it could be different but stayed firm at 1.5 quarts. It also told me the tube could be wrong. Not seated correctly..

Most AI crap that I have seen is just that. Accuracy does not seem to be an important part of AI. I could go off on some AI tractor documentary video's that I watched that couldn't more wrong if they tried, but I'll stop. 

 

If it has the factory dip stick, consider that as accurate.

Lose the AI crap, then find the correct information here.  Kohler has high zinc oil that would be perfect for your engine.

Why listen to that nonsense when you have this Site?  I have a neighbor whose coworker did their office job entirely with chat.  It is inaccurate tech.  AI is like a two year old.  Still wets the bed often

All the M14 with the long tube use the same tube and as it is screwed into the block  not seated correctly is AI BS

 

There is a difference in dip sticks.  What is the spec number of your engine? Then we can make sure you have the correct dip stick (there is a 1/4" difference)

My 1987 312-8 magnum takes 2qts, the 14hp is the same engine with a couple more hp everything else is the same.

I do everything I can to get that nonsense out of my computer and phone.  If folks would just look around and see how much society has degenerated because of this type of BS maybe then we can return to the path of real intelligence.

i run my kohler magnum14 with 2.5 quarts of high zinc oil.   rotella T straight 30w.    running for years without problems.

The magnum 12 I put on Frankie the power steering project tractor took 2 and about 1/3 quarts. It had some leaks around the bottom oil sump and output seal. I had it disassembled and the sump was cleaned and completely empty, filled using the dipstick. 

 

I use 5w40 full syn diesel oil in all my machines, the new multi vis full synthetic oils are far better then the old straight weight stuff. Especially when it comes to heat transfer in air cooled engines.

 

But if your stuck in the past just stay away from the "lack of brand and weight oil!"

 

I see a lot of AI comments. Keep in mind the AI we are using is in it's infancy. Plus it is using information, well lets just say some of that is not qualified. I compare it to going into an operating room and seeing a rusty knife, bottle of whiskey and a bullet on the tray.  Not even close to what goes on today.

AI in the science and medical areas has the extreme potential for improving care and development. Just imagine a Dr. trying to solve a problem and having thousands of qualified case studies at his finger tips.

Interesting, so they increased the oil level to compensate for the oil level shut down switch. 

 

Does this mean the Kohler flat head engines are not affected by a little over fill? Like a pint over fill?

The more oil in the sump has a lot of benefits. Cooling, contaminant concentration, etc.

another reason i run a little extra oil is to compensate for operating on slopes with just a splash lube engine.   i recall seeing some info years ago from kohler saying a certain degree slope was ok to run on.  15 degrees???   if i remember correctly.
