fuel pump gasket

Recommended Posts

Stan50

I remove fuel pump in my 312-8 (plastic one) because I noticed small fuel leak,  where fuel pump is connected to engine block. There was only one red thin gasket on the pump (looks decent),

Maybe I need another gasket ? something like that?

If you have a fuel leak there the pump diaphragm is shot. Drain your engine oil and check for presence of gas. With a plastic pump your best off just replacing it.

They are readily available and cheap but sometimes quality questionable. Plastic  pumps are not worth rebuilding.

There are many threads on them here.

One of many offerings here.

This would be a good opportunity to go with an electric pump.         :twocents-02cents:

Definitely check for fuel in gas.

I always thought the tractors with the fuel tank under seat were great candidates for electric fuel pumps and would go that route before trying one of the cheap plastic pumps. IDK what the name brand mechainicals go for but remember thinking there was not much difference $$$ wise in converting to electric or maybe even cheaper.

Facet. Has to be the low pressure, 1 to 3 lbs. or so, version.

Yes, small amount of fuel is sipping at the bottom of fuel pump. I bought the tractor recently and slowly going tru  all important components. I'd like to be ready for mowing season :). I read some forum posts about electric fuel pump and it is probably way to go.  I found that CarBolo  is much appreciated here so I 'II go that direction.

I recently changed oil, right after I put hands on the tractor, so oil looks like new. Old one was dirty and somewhat thin so maybe you're right.

What tractor are you working on Stan?

I like that pump. If you go electric you can take off the primer bulb.

Check out the other ones on that site he posted guys.

Most notably the shipping. Am I reading that right???

One more question, it is better fabricate block off cover plate or just put old fuel pump and redirect gas lines in either case?

Most guys are gonna say block it off. Ther is a cover made to do it or fab one.

If you need a gasket I have a ton of them.

I would think a block off plate would be better but have seen them both ways. I belive you can even get a factory block off plate but IDK what the cost would be.

1985 312-8 my original post

I live in Poland so i have to order parts in advance from US or I found some minor parts  here ( ignition switch, spark plug etc) or (like that CarBolo) on Chinese website (fastest route). Lots of planning with manuals but in short time I will know every part and every part number :D

:text-yeahthat:     No need for primer bulb and no risk of fuel leaking into the crankcase.

Just keep fuel in the tank.    Electric pumps die quick when pumping air.
