"Manic-Mechanic" 1,454 #1 Posted January 15 (edited) This is the axle assembly cover, fabricated from 13x12 .125 steel. Debating powder coat IH Red or paint Sunset Red-Rustoleum? Without press brake just not happening! Sunrise Red It is! Just ran out of paint! I did dry fit before final paint and it’s dead on! The key is cleanliness of the surface and giving it enough "tooth" for the powder to grip into. A random obit DA sander with a 180-grit disc roughs up the surface just enough to give good grip and the flow out hides the sanding marks. 2

That’s also the more costly route, which shouldn’t matter as there’s a fortune into this already! 2

kpinnc 16,802 #7 Posted January 16 I vote just paint. It's gonna get some scratches, and you can't touch up or repair powder coat.

That's my thought, just have to mark and drill the mounting holes first, didn't trust the measure and drill method, not always true! Plus not like I'm going to go do fields all summer...sqrlgtr
WHX?? 54,128 #9 Posted January 16 Wow you did a bang up job with just the lousy pics I give ya. Are you restoring the rest of the bar? If so to match. If you are going to leave it in it's work clothes just rusty primer and let it patina.

1mor Project 99 #14 Posted January 17 I had a snowplow for my 195 powder coated a few years ago. He told me he had a great match for IH red. It turned out way to light. Most attachments I have painted with Rustoleum. I used to swear by Sunrise Red, but then Menards had IH red implement paint. I bought a mid mount grader blade that had been broken and welded together crooked. I cut it apart and disassembled the rest for the repair. I figured I might as well finish the job and paint it. That is when I tried the IH red. That did it for me. I am stuck on that now for implements. It looked so good I ordered the correct decals. It looks so nice I have never used it.(I have another.) I'll have to paint a tractor to display it with. Not to steal the thread, but I have another paint question. My neighbor is a IH Collector/Restorer. He uses Majic paint from Tractor Supply. It has a hardener available for better shine and durability. He likes it, and it does look good, but he doesn't keep them long enough to see it's durability or fade resistance. I've heard it is prone to fading. Anyone have any experience with it? 1

This one little part just spray bomb it.

Here is a pic of some dolly wheels with one Regal and one IH Red (both rattle cans). IH red farther away wheel and looks better to me and still does a few months later after painting. Not a big difference and may just be according to who was working on that paint line that day .

A lot of different variations in Wheel Horse/Toro machines. Some earlier models were a different hue as well…
