702854boy 409 #1 Posted Tuesday at 10:02 AM Yesterday we brought home my grandpa's 1967 Cub Cadet 122 so I could tear into and replace a headgasket, reseal the motor, fix the clutch, fix some fatigue welds, go through the mower deck, get it all degreased, flush and refill tranny, and probably some other stuff that I cant think if off the top of my head. Anyways, I have been taking photos as I go along. And when we were taking it off the trailer the left front spindle broke so I'm in need of one of those. 5 4
ri702bill 10,982 #2 Posted Tuesday at 04:47 PM That broken LF spindle looks awfully busy. It is the Master side, the RF is moved by it thru the tierod. Is the LF a 3-piece assembly - lower, shaft and upper or are the lower and shaft 2 parts welded into one?? Looks repairable if you cannot find a good used one. 702854boy 409 #3 Posted Tuesday at 05:35 PM The top part that the steering box hooks up to is roll pinned onto the spindle but the part that goes through the axle and the part on the wheel is supposed to be one piece and from the looks of it, its going to be a pain in the butt to weld if we have to because the bottom part needs to be flat since it goes right against the axle. PWL216 1,147 #4 Posted Tuesday at 09:56 PM @702854boy I have a CC 122. If there are pics you need I can send them along. Mine is a 1966 but I assume they are similar.
702854boy 409 #5 Posted Tuesday at 10:15 PM @PWL216, do you know how to get the steering wheel shaft out of the steering box? as my steering wheel is stuck on it and already cracked from age and I don't want to break it.
702854boy 409 #6 Posted Tuesday at 10:19 PM Progress so far for today
702854boy 409 #7 Posted yesterday at 03:36 AM Well with some observing how everything went together I was able to loosen the part that goes through the steering box and connects to the wheels and take the bottom cap of the steering box off and hammer on the metal part that went through the steering wheel and the shift popped right out. It is most likely going back together with a nice coating of the silver cancer. I also noticed that there is a chip missing out of the head so now I need a k301 head. After I got the steering wheel out of the way I was able to take the hood stand off so that I can redo the wiring and weld up the fatigue cracks when I get to that point. 702854boy 409 #9 Posted yesterday at 03:43 AM Would the head off of a 14 horse Kohler work on the 12 horse?

702854boy 409 #11 Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Got the steering box torn apart and degreased and realized that one of the bearing things in it exploded so if anyone knows where to get a bearing thing like shown in one of the pictures below that be helpful. I also took the head off of a froze up 14 horse engine that we have laying around and shot some kroil in the bore to see if I cant get it freed up in the future. Edit: I'll post the photos later when I can use my Chromebook as my phone isn't allowing me to post photos right now. oliver2-44 11,137 #13 Posted 7 hours ago I rebuilt a similar steering box on a 1965 case. On the Case forums I was told I didn’t have to have the plastic spacer that hold the balls. Just go to ace and get any missing balls. Arrange them on the race with heavy grease to hold them. It’s a little harder to reassemble without the plastic piece, but it’s doable. My Case is just a show tractor but it has worked for several years without the plastic spacer.
