security cameras

Our area has been changing over the years and not for the better.  My wife is thinking she'd like to have security cameras that record.  I've looked on-line and frankly don't know anything about them.  I figure someone here has experience with self-installed cameras.

I thought about posting pictures of the house and shop but don't think that may be wise.  However below is a rough sketch of what I'm thinking.

I'm thinking of a hard wired set of cameras (better picture?) in location X1, looking towards front porch.  X2 looking at back door, X3 looking towards shop.  The monitor will be located in the area marked in red.  The wiring will be run inside attic of garage.

Wireless camera (we already have but would be relocated to shop) in location X4 looking towards house and X5 looking down side of shop towards garage door on back and along side of camper.

Suggestions appreciated

My Son installed two Doorbell cameras, and a motion activated floodlight camera in the back area a few years ago. All are 110 volt powered. They have no battery backup; therefore, they do not work in a power outage. All three send a real time image to his cell phone with an alert. A windy night will activate the flood light many times with false readings. Wildlife walking by will do the same.

Storage fees - each device costs $10 per month for WYSE to store the recorded footage and sound. (The floodlight camera does that). Something to consider.

Arlo wireless.

Can be battery or 110.

I have all battery.

Simple to install and maintain.

Magnet ball mount anywhere.

If you want to move it just pop camera off magnet and move it.

We've used them to monitor the dog inside after surgery etc. while at work.

Phone app works smoothly. No cost if you don't get the big storage options or facial recognition etc.

We have ( blink )

Which are hard wired.

Power supply plugs in two standard outlet.

Then the low voltage class 2 wiring goes out to the  cameras.

We were doing battery at first but the do

Not last very long.

I also have Blink. I have 8 cameras plus a doorbell camera. They take lithium AA batteries. Totally wireless. The batteries don't last super long if they are seeing lots of activity and they are expensive. I got rechargeable lithiums from the jungle site and just have to charge them when they die, no expense. Only $13.16 a month for all my cameras cloud storage. I can see the cameras anywhere on my phone that I have internet access. I can also save clips from history.

Although crime in my town isn't really an issue at this time I still have security cameras. Recently went to a town meeting & chief of police stated its been 18yrs since our town has had a reported vehicle or home robbery. In today's world I think that's pretty good. However....you never know.

I have Ring doorbells at front & back doors. Motion floodlight that covers from back of house to garage.  I had local security company install commercial grade security cameras that arent internet dependent.  System has a hard drive storage. They are hard wired for power with battery backup. I have access from my phone & set alerts to my preferences. Downside.....it wasnt cheap to have installed.

Best of all I have 3 retired nosy neighbors that dont miss a thing that goes on!!! 😃
