520HC On the trail of

Recommended Posts

I'm on the trail of a 520HC. I know (I think I know) that the C stands for Commercial and was hoping some on here could tell me what are if there is any advantages are there over the 520H. I seem to remember maybe a faster trans are sumin along the lines of that and swept forward front axle, heavier brgs. It supposedly ran strong when parked but I can already tell the wiring is fubar so would be purchasing not running so cant tell anything about the hydro. either.

Yep, it’s supposed to be geared for faster ground speeds over a regular 520-H. Not sure what the other differences are.
  Hope ya score it!!

I'd look at any non runner as a Parts pile unless it can be proven to run...

IF it's original and complete it has value in the

Rear wheels. $150 +

Splayed forward front axle. $300 +

Gear reduction steering system. $125 - $150 +

The Eaton 1100 transmission is known to be the HD of the Wheelhorse world. Add to that being an HC with the higher top speed. Gotta be a $150+ transmission alone.

Then all the other various other things.....

I'd say with confidence any price below $700 is a win.

That gives you fair recovery of investment.

I have a 418-C, it has the same transmission as the 520-HC. It is noticeably faster than my other hydros. I really noticed this a few weeks ago while plowing snow.

So, given that the above listing shows 1990 last.

What percentage of 520HC had the splayed forward front axle?

They had a larger air filter and the seat mount went up under the console plate to catch a second screw.  The later 520H had the same seat mount.  The HC models weren't as fancy using less chrome.

I think they all had it. That was the first model to use the swept axle, heavy duty front end. The 520-H came with it after 1990.

“HCs” all had swept axles, but not reduction steering.

The faster speed came from a slightly higher final gear ratio in the transaxle--the Eaton was the usual 1100.

The 520HC’s are 1988 and 1989 models. They had swept axle and std steering. To my knowledge no HC’s had gear reduction steering. 1991 was the first year gear reduction steering was offered.

the 520 hc is either 88-89 model -- has various features different than the H -- we located 2 a few years ago - one we sold, the other went to my grandson after we did some cleanup, rehab, fresh paint some places, plus maintenance on it - carb, manifold gasket, fuel pump etc - he uses to mow and plow snow plus decided to drive to school one day - typical of onans they need some TLC but it is an impressivce machine. Tractordata.com or toro online has some info  - i have also attached some photos of the WH brochure from 1989 that includes the HC model - eg: the HC was 1.1 mph faster top speed than the H -- enjoy, Bill

The hydro gearing on a HC is 22 to 44 reduction is 2 to 1. The 520-H is 20 to 46 reduction is 2.3 to 1.
