Best Wheelhorse tractor Patina Preserver conditioner for

Recommended Posts

FLtractor

Morning,

Wondering what the best, lowest maintence and resonable cost Wheelhorse patina tractor metal and paint conditioner preserver is.. Have owned my 856 since April and have not even washed it.. been told simple green will

help the paint pop.. have watched videos of Boiled linseed oil vs Penetrol.. where penetrol was clear winner for shine after a year on. Aplastic truck bumper. Recommended most welcome.

Thank you

Some won't agree on my method and that's okay. This is what this C-120 looked like when It was dropped off to me many years ago. I used simple green to clean it then a scotch bright pad then simple green again then wiped all that off with a damp sponge. After it was dry I applied WD-40 on a cotton rag maybe a couple times a year. Repainted the rims. I still own it. Works for me without a repaint.

I've used both oil and Penetrol. I prefer Penetrol.

Beautiful change… what’s your method for simple green clean tractor? Spray on towel let sit for time then wipe off? Or mix with water and spray whole tractor?

Does penetrol have the same issue as boiled linseed with possibility of rags catching spontaneous fire due to sunlight and heat? Would penetrol be good for conditioning a Hickory wood Hatchet handle too?

I don't know. I have never had any issues. I put the rag out to dry then discard it.

Yes. Rags soaked with Penetrol if not properly dealt with could be an issue. This was done many years ago. I think I used the Simple Green not diluted.   @FLtractor

@FLtractor  rarely wash my tractors , on the other hand , penetrating oil  down my stuff,  once lightly  hand buffed out  , it lasts and stays with the paint . does not attract dirt  , with its  dry clean  finish , really like the fact that  a clean , mineroil  cloth  , makes the paint pop  , all of my paints look  clean , and are rust free , my 82 , c 85  , still has good paint  , bought it new , pete

On a nicely patinaed tractor I would definitely go with Penetrol. No oil is going on my paint. I've been thinking about it for my 76 but it's not patina I'm dealing with. Sometime during out 17 years apart it was repainted and it looks like they final sanded with 80 grit. I have reasons for not doing another paint job. I don't know if the Penetrol would help or hurt.
