Seat shock

Anyone know of a replacement shock that's not 110 bucks? I need more important parts than this, but I want her right.

@cleat has you covered in this post, the strut will probably be about $ 20.  at Advance Auto, that is where I got min after seeing Cleat's helpful post.

I buy mine at a truck topper dealer.    He has 5 gallon buckets full from old topper lift gates at $5 each

You can get those shocks at TSC.  They are Dee Zee toolbox lift shocks.  About $30

Good point. Few would think of stocking them--they seem to be a “replace it when it fails” sort of thing. They are a convenience item versus a ‘can’t run without it’ item. 

I got a pair on the jungle site. Used one and had a spare until my son’s 312-H needed one.

None of mine have had such bling... I'll be an outsider for this one, but can you imagine the Ponds putting one of those on a Wheel Horse that came off the line when they ran the show? As with much of the unnecessary stuff on today's wheeled computers aka cars, I just don't see the need... rest the seat on the steering wheel for free...

With the time and effort I'm puttin' in, I want to restore her as she was built. But you have a good point. It's not really necessary.

At least on our two, the seat will not stay up without a working gas cylinder. For a while I was using a custom cut piece of scrap wood that I kept in the shed. 

Filling the gas tank while holding the seat up was not enjoyable.

Ahh... different design then all the black hoods... perhaps the engineering folks should have not "improved" this aspect of the seat design and kept it functional for free...

My 314-8 and the 520H did not have seat support cylinders.

I had a piece custom cut of 1/2" PVC with a slit up the side that I would slide over the shaft until I finally broke down and bought a par, one for the 310-8 and one for the 418-C.
