I have a 1976 wheel horse B-80 K-181 Kohler engine I just put a new starter and solenoid on this and check all the safety switch the new solenoid has 3 post on to big ones and one small one and when I try to start it I have nothing just a click how do I go about jumping the solenoid and it has a new Bat in it also and it been check and I also check the little wire with a test light to see if there is power there also and it dose have power there. Thank  you for your reply.

If your solenoid only has one small connector, then it likely grounds through the mounting screw tabs. Make sure you have a clean surface (chassis ground) to mount to and see if that makes a difference.

Use a heavy gauge wire or a pliers to jump across the 2 large terminals.

I have had a bunch of bad luck with electrical stuff from parts store lately :angry-banghead:. Sure does mess with your head when you a have brand new part and its bad. If you have a known good solenoid, I would try that if you don't figure it out pretty quick.

I've taken to testing everything I get, to the extent I can.

My 12v battery jump pack has been very useful along with the analog and digital volt/ohm meters.

@kpinnc    @mike avad  , since going over to  engine / frame  for  battery grounding  , haven't  had any related  issues , cleaned mount  areas , dielectric grease  , at cable / bolt  engine / frame , also added a  plug in in related area  . for my battery tender , easily  always right there for a plug in , usually  go on an opportunity  , for related issue . always snoopin  around  for  inspections , pete

Did you make sure all of the connections from the battery including grounds are clean and tight before spending money on a new solenoid? Is the solenoid grounded?
