Got some serious potential.

That should be a SIX speed which would have Limited Slip Differential.

Excellent work tractor.

Breakerless ignition.  Be very careful not to apply any voltage to the wire on the bottom of the coil. When they work breakerless are great systems no points to wear corrode or set...and timing is always spot on.

Not that difficult of a swap. Easier to do than an 8 speed. Input pulley is the same as a 4 speed, the brake and parking brake hook up just like a 4 speed. @Handy Don did the 6 speed swap on his 854; I did the 8 speed swap on mine....

Might put the 6sp in the 702. Honestly,  the 654 with the 3sp pushes snow & mows just fine as is.

The 6 speed is handy for two things in particular. Tilling in Low and using Low range for reversing in tight places.

The LSD is a HUGE upgrade for plowing or other traction too.

:text-yeahthat:Trimming tall grass around a tree is super easy in low range - and leaves a consistent finish to the cut.

The HUGE advantage with the 854 in low range is when using the 32" snowblower in about 6 inches of snow. Engine runs at WOT, blower going full speed, and the ground speed is a crawl to allow the snow to process thru.

As noted, for close maneuvering in tight spaces low range is invaluable, allowing plenty of time to be looking everywhere around you.

I also use it for teaching newbs about clutches and being in a gear from dead stop and getting the feel of steering a tractor.

I also do not ride my tractors onto or off my trailer (i.e. up or down ramps) so low range gears let it go by itself with me controlling it at a safe arm’s length. (I’ve seen at least two tractors crash while being ridden up ramps while being loaded at the Big Show. Two significantly damaged tractors; one lightly damaged rider; two thoroughly frightened riders.)

Exactly what I was thinking.  Full throttle in 1st gear is still a little fast for a blower full of snow. Think having lo range w/blower would work better

Ditto for using a tiller. The 1963 32" blower manual says to use 1st gear on the 4 speed at WOT and constantly use the clutch to slow down the ground speed. So close, yet so far.

This showed up today unexpectedly. 12hp Raider with a box full of parts.

Guy I bought Workhorse from felt bad bout motor being bad. Last week we spoke & he offered up the 12hp & 8sp if I wanted them. He said they could offset the cost of replacement engine. Thought it was a nice gesture. Shows up today with the entire tractor!

U get to feeling guilty just send it my way. Heck I would even pick it up if U will split the fuel with me :)
