RED-Z06 2,689 #4 Posted 11 hours ago Usually if there's only one ring in the pack that's chrome faced, its the top ring, typically have a bevel on the inside that will face up..this helps combustion pressure get behind the ring and force it out. The middle ring is use black, and will have a bevel on the outside, bevel faces down. Oil control rings, if its a 2pc with a thick ring with 2 thin contact points, it will have an expander that goes inside. 3pc rings have an expander; the ends must butt up, not overlap.
