HY lift cylinders

Is there a difference between the welded and non-welded cylinders, beyond the obvious of one being welded together and the other not?

I swapped in a non-welded cylinder today that I picked up at the show (no idea what it was originally off of) and the threads were straight instead of pipe thread, 5/16 instead of 1/4 inch, and I had to add another hole to the lift link for my plow to get it off the ground going up, but I was almost able to lift the front axle off the ground going down, which I had never been able to do before. It dropped right in place, but it's almost like it is operating in a different length range.

I'm just curious at this point. The whole point of it was so the tractor wasn't down while I send the welded one out to get resealed.

Older WH cylinders (welded) used SAE #5 ORB fittings later ones used SAE#6 ORB

neither cylinder that i have come across used pipe threads... both were straight NF 1/2" #5   9/16" #6

The on that came to me on my 855 100% uses 1/4" NPT at both ends, and the lines I got from Lowell were that threading as well.
