Stan50 11 #1 Posted 12 hours ago Hi guys, My WH 312-8 finally arrived . I changed engine oil (Mobil 10W-30), transmission fluid in the works, NGK B6L spark plug, air filter. All belts looks decent ,tires keep air. Throttle cable looks too long, but I'll manage something. I have couple questions: when in the idle, trans belt keep running? Does fuel gauge show gas level accurately? I'm just begginer, I 've never seen Wheel Horse before but I saw them on YouTube and just found one on Marketplace. Few months later little tractor is in my possesion and his crudiness and appealing look is better than I imagined. I started engine right away but battery did need recharge (looks new) More questions in the way, but looks like tractor is complete and ready for work, just some TLC needed. 4
midpack 1,066 #2 Posted 11 hours ago I have one just like it with the Kohler motor. Very versatile and good on gas too!

Any pics of the cable? 43 minutes ago, Stan50 said: I have couple questions: when in the idle, trans belt keep running? With the clutch pedal up (no foot pressure on it) this is normal. ALWAYS put the clutch pedal allthe way down before shifting and NEVER EVER shift while in motion. Choose a gear and stay in it until you stop. 43 minutes ago, Stan50 said: Does fuel gauge show gas level accurately? Pics of the guage? 2
Bill D 2,413 #4 Posted 11 hours ago Welcome! Looks like a nice low hour machine. Throttle cable routing looks normal to me. There's a checklist thread on here for newly acquired machines. Check it out. Transmission oil is 90W gear lube. Mobil 1 10W-30 is what I use for my engines. If you have any questions be sure to ask. Lots of knowledge here. That's a great worker that will last for a lifetime.

953 nut 62,658 #6 Posted 10 hours ago The 312-8 is a great machine. Powerful enough to get the job done but doesn't use too much fuel.
Stan50 11 #7 Posted 10 hours ago Quote Pics of the guage? Any pics of the cable? Hope that pics are accurate One more pic is that trottle cable hook up correctly?

I found air filter, spark plug, trans belt (not needed right know) already Edited 10 hours ago by Stan50
Bill D 2,413 #9 Posted 10 hours ago Throttle cable looks fine to me. They were always a little on the long side.

There is no hour meter on the tractor, but I found mouse nest under engine cover so I'm assuming that my tractor has spent many months in the barn.. Do you use 10W30 all year round or just in winter time? I don't have much to cut, but more around the house chores. I suppose that I can use 10W30 year round? ri702bill 10,362 #11 Posted 10 hours ago Welcome! 10W30 all year should be just fine. Gas Gauge - Remove the cap from the tank - inside the cap there is a metal spiral track. Sometimes, that metal gets rusty and impedes the vertical movement of the float. Move the float up and down the track & watch the gauge - it should follow the movement as the float twists the inner spiral. Two more - the float or mechanism are damaged or missing. The float is fuel logged and does not float. If so for both, replace the assembly.

I personally like synthetic oil. Mobil 1 10W-30 full synthetic is easy to get in my area.

pfrederi 19,101 #14 Posted 9 hours ago The throttle cable is not hooked up correctly.. you may be missing a couple parts. The cable works on a bell crank which has a solid shaft that goes to the governor linkage. However given how hard it is to get parts in Poland if it works..live with it... Stan50 11 #15 Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Looks like different setup to me, trottle cable is connected by one solid screw to the left side of flywheel cover? I will look forward to it... Edited 9 hours ago by Stan50

peter lena 9,524 #17 Posted 4 hours ago @Stan50 like a lite hydraulic oil , iNSIDE those cables and related linkage movement points , have a brand called SUPER LUBE , incredible temp range , add at elevated areas for easier run down . unit looks good , shows upkeep and coverage , maintain that , aside from the seat , easily replaced , by duplicating seat 4 bolt measurements , your choice low or hi backed , would personally , get some mineral oil on that paint rub it down with a clean cloth , let it sit without any scratching or rough cleaning . at least a week , then clean oiled cloth for rub in look . just the depth of all that paint , that thing will pop with clean shinny paint . that black engine paint will look new , get the trans oil changed , oil color on stick will tell what's there , you want clean oil or darkened oil , not milky , indicating moisture , maybe a new shift boot . make sur that gas tank cap has a vent hole , if blocked can cause fuel starvation. good luck with it , pete

The throttle cable connections on a 300 series are a little different then the older C1xx tractors. Either way if it works, run with it.
