Spindle wrench. I've read about them here. But I don't want to call ever seeing one in person. No need either. We don't mow with tractors.

Yup - some of the newer ones for sale are cast. Nope...

I have not had an issue with the 1-1/8" nut; the difficult one is the 15/16 flats on the spindle. I bought a "yard sale" one and thinned the width to fit. That works.

If you search "Wheel Horse wrench" a number of threads will come up.  Here is a good one...  :occasion-xmas:

That wrench is used to hold the spindle hex between the blade and spindle. It is long enough to catch the side of the deck so the nut can be loosened that holds the blade.

Some have tried to use it to tighten the nut and doesn't work good for that application, just to hold the shaft from turning.

953 nut

Much like @ri702bill I took one of my 1 1/8' combination wrenches and cut it down with a port-a-band just enough to slip into the space above the blade.

I bought one when I purchased my 1991, only to find out it was made of peanut butter.

I've had a few of those through the years. Actually they are more of a wall hanger. I have a Reese saved from our RV'ing years and milled down another one to get to the top nut. :)
