leeave96 495 #1 Posted 22 hours ago I would like to buy or make a bracket that would hold a trailer ball and fit/pin to the clevis hitch on my Wheelhorse tractor - not unlike a Brinly plow fits up to the clevis hitch. Probably would want one with a ball and the other flat with a hole for a pin like used to pull a garden cart. Before I reinvent the wheel, is there an easy button recommendation to accomplish the above - either fab or purchase? Any sage advice is much appreciated!
Chaz54 89 #2 Posted 21 hours ago (edited) There are a couple of vendors that make this. 'Wheel Horse Parts and More’ has one: https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/heavy-duty-removable-receive-hitch-if-you-have-a-104659-bracket/ I’ve got these on each of my 520-H’s, but I can’t find who made them. I’ll keep looking and let you know. Is this what you are looking for? or are you looking for just the receiver 2” hitch something like this? This is from a search on eBay. WHX?? 53,073 #3 Posted 18 hours ago You could just mount a ball on a piece of flat stock and put it in the slot hitch. Be easy enough to weld on a piece for a drawbar.

lynnmor 8,122 #5 Posted 6 hours ago Not a great idea to support a hitch ball with that tiny cable, if that is your goal. Also, what would keep the ball from rising if the load turns negative? 2

Also, what would keep the ball from rising if the load turns negative? Seconded. We've tried this. Can't recommend. Remember there's two kinds of weight. 1. Static (still) weight. 2. Dynamic (motion) weight. ANY movement of the towed item will cause the hitch to rise and fall quickly. A cable held hitch will support a decent amount of tongue weight.... AND... A moving dynamic weight will be potentially several times THAT amount. My recommendation: Get a stock type Wheelhorse Tab Hitch WITH your cable supported hitch. They'll work on the same rig. Put the trailer ball on the Tab hitch. @leeave96 PM me with your address. I have a pile of spare Tab hitches.
Handy Don 14,803 #7 Posted 3 hours ago In addition to the advice above, make sure to consider the geometry of the trailer tongue and how sharply the tractor will be able to turn when the trailer is connected. Having the ball too close to the tractor made sharp turns with my “V-frame” tongue trailer (similar to the picture below) impossible--the tongue rails hit the tractor’s rear wheels. I had to lengthen the ball mount out past the tractor's rear wheels to get adequate clearance. I’m also very conscious of the tongue weight on that extended ball holder--loss of steering or a wheelie would be, well, unwelcome. Another important consideration is to keep the ball at or below the height of the tractors’s rear axle to prevent a sudden trailer stop (pothole or collision?) from causing a tractor wheelie.
