Election Day

I’m going to vote on my way to work. Voting is something that my father instilled in me since I was 18. I don’t think I’ve ever not voted in an election.

Same here Richard.  Auto pay, direct deposit, and credit card.   Haven't  switched to phone pay...yet.

I was just jabbing Don on having to go to work.   I did pass the post office on my way to vote.

We have a problem with people not bothering to vote over here.

They have tried postal votes to make things easier than having to attend in person.

But it's nothing to do with convenience, it's to do with ordinary people being sick of our two party choice.

Labour promised to look after working people. No tax rises were key to their manifesto and getting elected. Within a year they put up taxes and a few months later we are facing another huge increase in purchase tax, income tax or national insurance.

And we still have another three years to go before we can flip flop back to conservative rule.

I agree voting is a privilege nanypeople do not enjoy. But voting for liars and thieves is a pretty difficult thing to do.

I vote when I can like the last Big one.  Otherwise I am largely unqualified.  I don't watch television and I know nothing about who is running for what  Could be a fun choose your own adventure maybe but that seems irresponsible in my humble opinion:rolleyes:

What I mean is I usually vote local.  And the big ones.  16 to 18 hour days and no local knowledge and no time.  Uninformed is not good!

Period.  I do not have a remedy for that at this time.  The remaining hours I need to scramble to handle all of the other life things.  IF there were

any good, reliable, or trainable humans I could be on the up and up on that political business.  :eusa-pray:  I am able to fool around on this wonderful

place here and there whilst waiting for the food to get hot.  :greetings-clappingyellow:

Mrs. p and I voted just before lunch today.  We were numbers 46 and 47 in the till.  There was one proposal on the ballot, the smallest government led vote we’ve ever been a part of!

Pathetic turnout but same issue as you - Single school millage proposal.

Nothing to vote on in our county this time.  Otherwise I'd be there.

I made it to the poll tonight. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that this one snuck up on me and I was still doing some of my research while filling out my ballot, and ultimately left two races blank because I could not find the information I wanted.

I did go in knowing all I needed about the PA Supreme Court retention vote, which was the one I was really worried about. Most of my local "races" were 20+ year incumbents running unopposed for jobs like dog-catcher.

I early voted 8 days ago. Mrs. Handy voted today.

Busy ballot with one state-wide referendum.

I still vote on the first Tuesday of November, in person. Only one time did I use the absentee ballot and that was during my tenure in the military, and I did vote early one time because I was to be out of town during the election.

I did the "early" voting thing last year. Although the elections office lady will very sternly tell you "It's not early voting, it's 'in person mail in voting' as if that's not a contradiction in terms. My response was "Whatever you want to call it lady, it's the third Friday of October, I filled out a ballot and handed it to you, I don't care what day you look at it".

I did it for the 2024 election because I knew that was just going to be an unmitigated mess. I took election day off because of how wild I expected it to be, and still decided to go do it early when I had another day off a few weeks before election day. And it was still a giant cluster.

Richard Daley’s Chicago mantra.

Our county switched to electronic voter tracking three years ago. You sign in using a stylus on a tablet and the poll clerk compares it to your registered signature on their laptop screen. Prior to that there were big bound pre-printed books; one for each district for each election (~150 districts). You checked in by signing in ink in your spot on the page. The county keeps a secure storage area with thousands of those books from over 100 years of elections!
