Inaugural camper trip. PIC HEAVY.

We took a 4 day outing up to The White Mountain National Forest on the Maine/ NH border off Route 113. 

 

Awesome trip!

I don't sleep on the ground. Never did. 

 

We've tried MANY ways to compensate for my fibromyalgia and related pains. 

This most recent tenting bedding setup has been the best. Far and away. 

We were using two cots zip tied together with a nice air mattress over them. 

Quite comfortable.  

 

The new camper setup.... even better. A LOT better. 

Trina bought a California King sized 8" thick 3 section memory foam mattress. 

It's wonderful. 

It's lovely. 

It's incredibly comfortable. 

 

I got THE BEST sleep I have in many years. 

 

We will be ordering an identical mattress for the home.

Brothers and the few sisters.  Sleep is paramount along with great nutrition.  Off time reduces stress.  big bad and a fire.  = sleep.  eat clean, move, rest.  Keep moving and horsing around.  Rinse and repeat

We have done a lot of cold weather camping in our 1987 Avion... it is 34', has the "normal" propane furnace for that size of a trailer, plus it has an Olympian Wave8 radiant propane heater that sips propane comparatively. I know they make Wave4 and Wave6 sizes?? I really like it. If it's REALLY cold, I will run the furnace to get the chill out of the air, then switch over to the Wave8. As with any heater, there are precautions to take when using these (I slightly open a nearby window, and same with a roof vent.)

Also, if you can operate off of electricity, I highly recommend a Vornado heater fan. We have several, for the house and trailer and like them a lot. My favorite is https://www.vornado.com/shop/heaters/whole-room/vheat-whole-room-vintage-heater   .    They are not cheap, but they are not cheaply made, either. And, they have a 5-year warranty. We have several of this one...... a small LED "on" light quit working on the first one I bought.....it was just under the 5-year warranty so I called them. They said that before they would ship a new one, I had to clip the power cord 2" from where it disappeared into the base and send them a picture of it. So, Joe Handyman did what they asked, and they sent me a new fan. Meanwhile, I reattached the power cord inside the base, and like MAGIC we now have TWO of these nice fans....

we have aged out of camping after more than 30+ yrs - including children then grandchildren --  it's a terrific family activity - as well as for just couples actually of almost any age -- but can get a bit impractical in the more advanced senior years when comforts are priority -- and if its camping that's also at a lakeside.... or includes lake/water/swimming/boating activity.... that makes camping even more special. Campfires, grilled burgers/hot dogs/chicken etc --- plus smores, the stars at nite, etc all makes for wonderful memories.

I like that for a rare but useful possibility. Ill share the thought with Trina.  

 

We're looking at the possibility of a battery powered heater of some sort just to break the chill just before bedtime 🛌   

 

We've camped in sub zero weather just a few times and likely will again but the clothing and activities are challenging.

I can't move too quickly or I'll sweat. Dangerous at best. 

She can't stop moving or she freezes up. 

 

To account for the camper in sub zero we'd just use the toilet with jug flushed water. No system. 

That's the easy part...

You don't camp; you glamp. But I don't blame you. I haven't been camping since I was in Cub Scouts in the early 1970s. I did 21 years of living under a poncho. Furthermore, I found out after 1981 why my father never liked to go camping either, or his father. When you are forced to live under the stars for weeks or months at a time, camping is something you never want to think about again, especially on your days off. That's three generations of infantry right there. My wife went camping with the twins. (Neither were in Cub/Brownie or Boy/ Girl Scouts.) I stayed home. Once they entered the Army, like their old man. They're not big on camping either.

 

But they are better parents than me. Because they both have gone with their children camping for Cub Scouts. Though my son was smart, he slept in a Winnebago at night. No way! He was sleeping under the stars without a real roof in between him and the stars. My daughters daughter at this point Loves camping  I think she'll be the 10th Generation In the Military when she grows up  in another 8 years. Glamping I would consider. But camping, no thank you. Even the grandchildren know not to ask Grandpa to go camping.

We're in the White Mountains (Lincoln, NH) now. But we "camp" in a condo 😉

Camping vs glamping....... I'll have to agree about camping..... I DO have 3 tents, but they stay in the attic.

We've tried a few different outfits over the years. We also have various sized tents for variable camping. Last count, we had 11.

I can't remember if that was Trina's idea or mine. One of our hiking Buddies has a little camper that she pulls all over the northeast. Ain't much comes out of that thing during setup before the pink flamingos!
