953 nut 62,067 #1 Posted Thursday at 12:25 PM (edited) There is nothing more terrifying than old moldy food in the fridge, and that is why Haunted Refrigerator Night on October 30 is such a great holiday, a night for ghostly occurrences and hauntings. This night fits right into the spirit of the Halloween festival, which is the next day. October 30 is also Mischief Night, Cabbage Night, or the Night of the Devil, and is a fun way to remove the lurking dangers lying in wait at the back of your fridge. 8ntruck 8,136 #2 Posted Thursday at 01:32 PM Night of the devil. We used to live in East Lansing, close enough to Spartan Stadium that we could hear the announcer call the games on football Saturdays. One year, I had the first round of leaves raked onto the parking for eventual pickup by the city. Talking with our neighbors on Nov, 1 or 2, they mentioned the excitement in front of our house on Oct. 30. A fire truck made a call to extinguish the pile of leaves. We had slept right through it, and had not noticed the charred spot where the leaves used to be.
Beap52 1,616 #3 Posted Thursday at 10:18 PM What's worse than expired meat is soured meat. A couple of months ago our daughter and son in law's freezer door was left open by their special needs son. Guess who was called upon to remove the rotting food? They ended up buying a new freezer because there is no way to get that smell out of one. A few years ago a landlord I worked for needed me to remove a refrigerator whose electricity was turned off and the renters moved out with ref full of rotting food. Now that one was ripe! The other day I was in a meeting whereas someone asked who cut mold off of cheese and ate it. The older generation nodded their heads in acknowledging they had. The the younger gagged. 1
wallfish 18,623 #4 Posted Thursday at 11:22 PM Installing 2 way satellite dishes ( before the internet) down in NY on supermarkets. You could smell it when that rancid meat truck turned into the parking lot. They went around and collected all the expired meat and butcher scraps so you can only imagine those hot hazy mid summer days in July. Highly doubtful that thing ever got washed out either. BRUTAL The absolute worst was this weird brown skinned slim goo that seeped out of the compact dumpsters and collected near the corners of it. As long as that dried skin wasn't compromised you couldn't really smell it. But once my buddy walked on it by accident one day. Oh my was it BAD!!!! He had to throw his boots away too.
953 nut 62,067 #5 Posted Thursday at 11:57 PM One of my cousins was an independent long haul truck driver. He would pick up loaded trailers and deliver them to the desires destination and his truck broker was always able to find another load near the drop off point. One load he told me about was scrap from a sausage processing plant to a fertilizer manufacturer. He had hauled their loads before but the truck broker forgot to tell him the trailer had been setting in the hot sun for a few days awaiting pick up. Said he was tempted to park it in front of the truck broker's house!
