+9F with a stiff 15MPH East wind that is drifting the fine snow.  Just on the leading edge of the storm now.  As it moves Northeast the wind will shift from the North and pile up some snow.

The rain began about 2:00 PM yesterday with temperatures jus a bit above freezing. Woke up this morning with about four inches of rain and 36*.  We needed the rain and so far we are doing well.        hope everyone is staying safe.

I have surgery scheduled for Monday noon so somehow I will need to clean up this mess starting in the wee hours of the morning.  I don’t want to bring out the Kubota with a snow plow because I have no clue what the skids might do to the driveway, so I’ll start with the 520H with cab and 2 stage and see if it can digest the snow in time.  I have a rubber scraper for the Kubota plow so I better install that now.  
No, they won’t reschedule saying they are always open, it took months to get this appointment and I would fall to the bottom of the list.

Over night we got about 1” a mix of very fine icy sleet and snow. +17 and windy here this morning in the Texas Hill Country. Too cold for this Texas guy!

We’ve had at least a mild snow or ice the last 4 out of 5 years. 

Last night my daughter in law originally from New Jersey finally owned up to bringing this stuff with her when they moved here 5 years ago

Currently significant statewide problems with the electric system. Far NE Texas in the piney woods (Oklahoma Arkansas Lousiana corner) got a lot more ice early last night and had areas of larger outage's Lots of small localized outages across the states probably due ice/tree limbs. The utilities have done a huge amount of neighborhood tree trimming since the last freezemageton.

This is more of a mess than I anticipated.

 

Blower is not working. Any time it gets into anything the auger locks up, new belt is already smoke.

 

The snow is almost too light for the plow. It's moving it, but it's leaving a lot behind, so we moved a lot by hand. I'm going to warm up and go make some adjustments to the plow and try again.

Well it is still coming down this am.  Last night we got about  31/2 inches but it has been snowing now since about 5:30 am.

 

I have a video of the early morning snow.   Not very big flakes and dry , powdery snow.

 

I have not been out yet as the dressing routine will take a lot longer today with long johns, heavy socks, heavy lined pants and boots!

 

I took a photo just a few minutes ago of the snow height at the bottom of the front step.  Probably six or 7 inches so far.

Same here.   Sleet and freezing rain is forecast after the snow.    I want the ice on top of the snow so I can plow it off.

Tilt your plow forward like we do here. Snow will more readily roll off the sides.

Check your PTO adjustment, yes, if it slips the belt will slow and then slip.  Ask me how I know.  For deep snow the PTO needs to be tight, actually tighter than I would like.

About 9 inches here currently. Getting 2 inches an hour now. I did 4 drives and came back and did the first 2 over [steep] and had 3 inches back on them already..Back out in a couple hours after I warm up.

Actually too much rolling off the sides is the problem. Part of it anyway. One of the pivot bolts was loose on the frame letting the blade sit cockeyed, so the other side was riding over. Tightened that some and its working better.

I'm pretty sure the auger is binding. When it happens I have to roll it backwards and then it is still stiff to go forward. But the belt is toast and I don't have a spare, so the blower is sitting the rest of this out.

 

Between the plow, the wife, and the neighbor we have caught up to the storm and should be able to keep up until dark. Morning will be the real mess.

Maybe???

Look for a shiny spot on the edge of the auger blade. It's possible there's a dent into the housing somewhere so the auger will hit and catch on it. The shiny spot will lead you to the dent when you turn it and watch where it goes.

5½” so far, started snowing about 7:00am, but in the last hour or so it’s picked up in intensity.  Holding off clearing anything out, but once it reaches 15” or so will probably have to make a pass at the driveway.

I’m guessing we have just over 6” here.  It’s coming down pretty hard for the last few hours. Not going out anytime soon to verify, though. 

 

I was up around 5:30 this morning and it was just light snow at that point, and only an inch on the ground. 
 

The front of the blower on the GC is probably 16” high, and I’m going to use all of it by the time the storm is done. I used it back in November when we got 8”. Since then, I’ve just been using the plow on the 314-8. Which is a lot of fun. 
 

It’s 5 degrees out. I’ve got the block heater hooked up to a remote control, that hopefully I can trigger from the house. Initial testing had it working from the front of the garage. Hopefully repositioning the outlet yesterday increased my range. I plugged the shed light on it too, so I can tell when it’s on.  Also gave it a shot of PS white bottle and a shot of 911 for good measure. Had the filter gel up on me once. That sucks.
