Docwheelhorse 2,776 #1 Posted Monday at 05:02 PM (edited) On my way home... diverted and stopped here. Talked with a couple workers who where cutting the lawn and remembered WH. Kinda cool to have walked the grounds Tony Edited Monday at 05:05 PM by Docwheelhorse Added pic 2 11 1

ri702bill 9,923 #4 Posted Monday at 06:31 PM Touching that they returned home 45 or so years later, this time parked out front, not crated at the rear loading dock.... Talked with a couple workers who where cutting the lawn - it would have been fitting if they were using WH equipment to do so..... 1
Racinbob 12,175 #5 Posted Monday at 08:59 PM I still go past the place fairly often. I use to live about a mile away and went past it quite often then. I'll be going past it again tomorrow. It never fails to bring back fond memories of touring the entire facilities as a contractor. They were still building the square hoods then so no pictures.
Lane Ranger 11,578 #6 Posted Monday at 09:26 PM Did they take down they ”test hill” on the west side of the plant building? My understanding is after plant was built they created a hill to have a place to put new models through a number of tests for quality, endurance, etc. it was there the year i took one of my RJ difficult transmissions up to Racinbobs for help He lived just west if plant on a north south road! !

I dunno... I was tempted to look around but there are gates and hey... it hasnt been WH in decades. I was surprised somebody from Lock Tube didnt ask what I was doing. I spent about 10 minutes there, chatted with a guy my age running a Scag cutting the grass. He remembered WH being there & He said he has one of the 8 hp units from way back and still cuts the grass at his house with it. He was an employee of a landscaping place. I have his phone # and I told him about this site and the "Big Show". He is gonna try and make it... his name is Ron Whitiker

I did jokingly say that Cecil (I had to explain who that was) would not approve of a Scag Zero turn cutting WH grass!!

Honestly... there was a vibe realizing that this was "the place" and that Cecil and Elmer walked around here.
