National Motorcycle Ride Day

Recommended Posts

tunahead72

Thanks to the wonders of email and the fine folks at NAPA, I now know that tomorrow is National Motorcycle Ride Day.

My daughter and I are in, on her bike because mine still isn't running.  She's a new rider, with very little on-road experience, so we're still in practice mode.  But seat time is seat time.

Anybody else?

Traded mine for a Jeep when I moved here in 2013.  WAY too many zombies here to navigate 2 wheels.  In the Midwest the major trepidation was deer.  I will take that over the chimps watching yoo tube flying down the road.

Have fun, be safe, enjoy the time with your progeny!

I hear what you're saying about the "drivers" and the deer.  I always take a couple minutes before I ride to breathe deeply and consider what I'm about to do, and how dangerous it is.  And it just occurred to me that I see deer as more predictable than humans in vehicles these days.

Thanks for the well wishes, all of them!

I miss having a motorcycle. Actively searching for something now. Not 100% sure what I want. My last bike was a Suzuki V-Strom, real upright riding position which I liked.

I sold my Suzuki 1800 Intruder due to the other nit-wits on the road. Too many close calls.

At my age, I'm close enough with out pushing it!

Cooler weather and fall color will make for a great ride. Do you have some winding secondary roads without traffic to ride?

We do (my favorite kind of roads), but the "without traffic" is the hard part.  I usually have to drive about an hour into Lancaster County to find nice stretches, I don't think we're going to have that kind of time tomorrow, but soon.

That reaction? Just kidding!

I do miss my ‘66 Honda Cub 50.

This is the time of year when I don’t know which is worse, Bambi or the Bozo/Bozette staring at their phone.

In any case, heading west in the morning is definitely best.

The way many drivers don't see bikes I'm not too sure about that.   :auto-swerve:   May be better off having the sun ion my eyes and the other driver able to see me.

I kind of expected someone to make that perfectly valid point.  I figure they drive like they’re blind anyway, and the sun won’t prevent someone from seeing me when they’re busy looking at their phone. It’s a crapshoot to be sure.

I still have my vintage motorcycles but pretty much gave up street riding anymore. Like stated above, too many distracted drivers & definitely wildlife.(especially deer)  Small town I live in population is growing way too fast so traffic is terrible most the time. Pretty much stick to an easy ride around my subdivision with maybe a quick ride down away from town.

Sunday mornings in Union/Snyder counties before the buggies head to church is wonderful.  I can ride for miles without seeing a soul.  Once the buggies show up though; Look out!  People passing them are on a collision course.

I hear that.  We saw the aftermath of one of those collisions a few years ago, it didn't end well for the horse, don't know about the people.

As it turns out, my daughter and I were only able to do some practicing in a local parking lot, we had to work around the rain that was on-and-off all day.  We'll get out again later this week.
