Recommended Posts

Anyone have any recommendations for throttle and choke replacement cables for my 953 restoration?  I don’t mind paying for good quality ones. Let me know thanks as always

When I did mine, I made new cables from my bulk stock that I have. One source for example - https://www.mfgsupply.com/mower/mowerthrottle/mowerthrottleu.html

You can also buy a cable that is too long from a local source and cut to fit.

The ends by the levers can be opened up to remove the old cable, pinch back closed when new cable is installed.

My issue is original cables including the levers are gone so I’m kinda starting from scratch

I guess you could improvise a bit and make up an a pair of adaptor plates to use an off the shelf unit like this one.

I would see if A-Z has a set. Then add new cable stock if need be.

@953 nut   add a  pull back spring  to the  carb connection  end , always  assisting  , cable function , also  super lube , hydraulic oil . check temp range , have that set up on all my engines , basic  simple enhancement , think about it ,every time you , move throttle lever  its spring assisted , movement is  smooth . solid , easy  . light to medium extension spring , easily fits to  linkage connection area , purists  are  scared to death , on this improvement  , once tried , verified , added it to all my small engine throttle / choke set ups .  dare to make it better  , you can't push a cable , but you sure can pull one , pete

Try http://www.psep.biz/store/toro_mower_cables.htm. They look original. Take your time . Look on eBay I bought a bunch of them from there over the years.

@Tonytoro416 as you set up anything  , verify  every  stage , also like super lube hydraulic oil , should have  no stiffer / binding  spot , anywhere . thats what  , led me to a  spring pull to close assist . always  enhancing  cable movement . lets you add or reduce , setting  very smoothly / easily . experiment  to verify , pete
