For those interested in making things with mind and machines, it is a day that begins a month of inspirational experiences. This year also, America’s manufacturing sector is gearing up to celebrate the manufacturing sector’s contribution to the United States’ economic power. 2 3

ri702bill 9,797 #3 Posted yesterday at 03:24 PM Hard to find good quality old-time items still made here new. Sad that Corporate America sold it's soul years ago to save a few bucks & put a smile on the Shareholder's greedy faces... Offshoreing Production was only a short term benefit..... 2
sscotsman 193 #4 Posted 22 hours ago I bought new Craftsman tool boxes last year, after discovering that used ones are always beat up, and then discovering that new ones are still made in the USA! In the same factory where they've been made for 50+ years.

Regulations imposed by state and federal governments had a lot to do with it too. The foundry my father worked in 80 years ago when I was born was not allowed to expand but remained in operation for a few years. in the 1970s it was grandfathered in for a fifty year period then forced to close a few years ago. Seems the powers that be weren't concerned about over a hundred jobs they did away with. Edited 22 hours ago by 953 nut
8ntruck 8,073 #6 Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Stanley now owns the plant in Sedalia MO. that makes some of the Craftsman tool boxes. They also make several other brands in that plant. I've gotten a tour through that plant. They have some pretty nifty CNC punch presses and sheet metal breaks. Edited 7 hours ago by 8ntruck
