how do i remove and install new valve guides into my k181? i was looking in the repair manual and it mentions special tools but im not sure what modern tools would work in their place.

They are a press fit in the block. They can be extracted with a threaded puller and new ones pressed in... BUT they need to be reamed to the recommended size for proper valve stem clearance. That is NOT a job for a cordless hand drill and a chucking reamer. Proper fixturing is required to get the finished guide hole perpendicular to the top of the block.

If not, the valve will be tipped and NOT seal all the way around on the seat..... perhaps a job for a qualified machine shop..:twocents-02cents:

The last time I needed a machine shop, I used the DC Napa center.  They have a full machine shop attached to their store.  That’s the one in Grand Rapids on Patterson.
