Fearless chickens

Recommended Posts

I was mowing today and my chickens have NO fear of the Horse!

Pecking right next to the deck and wheels as I was driving by.

Same for you other chicken owners?

Don't have chickens so I can't say... but, I'm thinking they may appreciate the speed at which they lose their heads if they keep pecking near a :wh:...

:confusion-confused:         The mower was probably kinking out some bugs or worms,        Like a gourmet buffet for chickens.

If I walk by the fence, my neighbor's cows will move away.  If I'm on the 520H, they will stay and look in amazement.   I believe the low rumble of the Onan soothes them.

Our chickens have very little fear of Trina's tractors. Particularly The Military Tribute Tractor  "Millie".

The birds will stay right beside it while she's attempting chores.

The deer around the house here do the same thing.  They'll just look at me on the tractor, but if I were to get off, they're gone in a flash.

Mine don't get that close, usually about a foot away pecking at the fresh clippings.

Horsin'round

Our chickens love to follow the tractor,  picking the bugs I kick up.  Occasionally they get so involved in their feast, they fail to notice that I've made another round. Slows me down a bit.  Them chickens ain't too bright.!

My neighbors chickens run home when the mowers come out.

But we have a 7-foot black snake that WILL NOT back down from any of my mowers. He bows up like a cobra and just stands there. I just mow around him and eventually he gets bored and crawls off...

Some years back I offered to mow my Dad’s lawn. He’d let it get quite high while on vacation. Felt a big thump under the deck and chunks of something went flying. Stopped right away and found the remains of a large garter snake.

While living in Florida I was mowing with a push rotary mower which suddenly stalled. I pulled it back to restart the engine and saw the remains of a rattle snake that had gotten decapitated.  :scared-eek:  At that point I went in the house, had a couple of beers and put on a pair of boots before finishing the mowing.
