He made himself the prior owner's go-to guy for a bunch of not-quite-work- related things and got buddy-buddy with the family. Now the old man is dead, and his son "runs" the place (not sure how you run a business in PA from Florida, but whatever) and that's basically how he got his job back. There were a few other details around his re-hiring, his in-between work experience, and a project we were undertaking that contributed, but it was mostly connections. I suppose if you have the cash maybe it's worth it to you. A few of the guys I used to work with always complained about theirs, that's I needed to know to steer clear of them. So I did a quick look at the Google phone. iPhone has a much better camera and twice the memory.

I have a Google 7, I don't buy the newest one, and it has all the memory I need; it tells me I've only used 36% so it has more than enough for what I use it for. I think it takes great pictures, but I'm not a professional photographer either.
Handy Don 14,750 #29 Posted September 20 (edited) Irksome? Involvement with folks passionate about their choice of phone and even those who aren’t! Most of the conversations focus on two main themes: the software, hardware, and application “ecosystem” (i.e. Android vs. Apple), or else price. To each their own--and enjoy. I’m often thought of as a “techie” and hence often asked for advice on choices. I try to change the subject because there are so many factors that affect the decision and I don’t want to be responsible for making it! I was thinking that the iPhone would have been way out of line. The camera resolution is driving the increase in memory needed and likely will be needed before end of life. Even with high grade compression, a high-resolution color photo can take up a lot of memory -- 2 to 5 Mb. The same image (at the same resolution and color depth) in JPEG or PDF format can be twice as large. Both Android and Apply have mechanisms for automatically moving the camera’s just-snapped, full-resolution image to a cloud storage site and keeping a lower resolution version on the phone for casual viewing as a way to extend the life of a phone with limited storage. The image library on my desktop contains over 60,000 images from the last 20 years. Many of the early ones are in uncompressed formats, too.
